Spotlight on San Juan
Apr 1 Our new blog series: The five municipalities of Ibiza
The island of Ibiza is divided into five municipalities, each with their own wonderful landscapes, beautiful beaches and of course a host of spectacular Ibiza villas. Over the next few weeks, we will be featuring each area in our bi weekly blog, giving you a wonderful insight into the hidden treasures each different area holds, guiding you through the many wonders of the island as you search for your dream home in Ibiza.
Spotlight on San Juan
One of the prettiest of these is the area of San Juan, far in the north of this small yet magical island. There are many reasons to choose San Juan when searching for that perfect villa in Ibiza, from its scenic countryside, wild and rugged coastline, soft sandy beaches, plus an abundance of fabulous places to eat, drink and shop. Here are just a few of our favourites.
Beaches
San Juan is blessed with some of the most secluded, idyllic and natural beaches on the island, many of which are relatively untouched by the influx of tourism. Take the road towards Portinatx and you will discover the heavenly bays of Cala Xarraca and Cala Xucla, quiet and far from the madding crowds, these horseshoe shaped bays are a haven of peace and tranquillity, where you can swim, snorkel and splash in the crystalline waters, reviving your soul. Head up further north, through the village of San Juan and you will reach the breathtaking bay of Cala San Vicente. A more lively, family friendly atmosphere abounds here, and the water is such a startling shade of turquoise that you will feel as though you have stepped onto a movie set. Some of the Ibiza villas which overlook this bay are the most sought after of all Ibiza real estate due to the unforgettable views of this incomparable coastline. Should you fancy a long and lazy lunch, we recommend the friendly and quirky On the Beach restaurant, nestled into the far right hand corner of the beach, where a warm welcome and excellent food is guaranteed every time. Of course, we cannot forget to mention Benirass, one of the most famous of Ibiza beaches, a place where the bohemian set rub shoulders with supermodels and hippies, but where everyone is welcome, and the Sunday sunset drumming session simply have to be seen to be believed, attracting a colourful collection of musicians, dancers and drummers who come to celebrate the end of another perfect Ibiza day.
San Joan Village
Certainly one of the most picturesque of all the villages in Ibiza, San Joan is home to some of the islands most colourful characters, cafes and shops. A haven for artists and eccentric characters for decades, the village boasts a number of organic cafes, eclectic shops selling clothing and trinkets, and each Sunday plays host to a vibrant street market, where a host of stalls sell everything from homegrown organic vegetables to handmade jewellery, furniture and decorations. There is always a welcoming atmosphere with live music in the centre of the square getting everyone into the Sunday spirit. Should you wish to enjoy a truly excellent lunch or dinner, then head to the Giri Cafe, in the very heart of the village, where their innovative menu, enchanting garden and fine cuisine keeps their customers coming back time after time.
Agroturismos
If you are holidaying on the island whilst searching for your dream Ibiza villa to make your home, then San Joan also is home to some of the prettiest and most delightful agroturismos (country hotels). One of our favourites is Can Marti, a true hidden gem, set in a wonderful ecological garden, where you will feel as if you have stepped into your own personal piece of paradise. The building is over 400 years old and has been carefully maintained to retain all its natural charm, whilst offering all modern creature comforts. Revive your senses in the breathtaking hammam, or simply take of advantage of the wonderful Ibiza weather and soak up the healing rays of the Ibiza sunshine in one of the many luscious garden areas or ecological pool.
So, when deciding on your chosen area for your dream Ibiza villa, if you favour the peace and tranquillity of the north, then San Juan has everything you could possibly need to make all your dreams come true.
